Being
Responsible in Breeding Pets
If we don't breed we won't have pets.
But we are killing too many because of breeding without knowledge. Do not assume
you won't be one of those. Your intentions and beliefs won't save the pets.
You need knowledge.
What does being responsible in breeding pets mean?
- Accept the possibility that it might not be right to breed your loved
pet.
- You don't know what you don't know, so explore and learn.
- If you don't have the time to learn about genetics, health and behavior,
don't breed..
- The way it has always been isn't always the right way. Read and catch
up on what we've learned.
- Learn and understand why two healthy parents can create unhealthy young.
- If you can't take them back, don't create them.
- The risk of unfavorable genetics should be on you, not the buyer. Fault
has nothing to do with it.
- If you aren't working for improvement, you are contributing to decline.
- Your support and guidance after placing the pet can mean life or death,
be proactive in providing it.
- Love isn't enough. Your choices can bring joy or heartbreak, apply knowledge
in making them.
If you are considering breeding a pet explore the links below. Read at least
one book on genetics, and one on the mechanics of breeding, birth and early
care so you understand what kinds of problems can occur before you
breed. What bad thing will happen if you take the time to learn?
