Finding information

• Search the page using your browser's "Find on Page" search or find function. For example, in Internet Explorer you can select Edit and then Find (on this page). Or you can hold the Control Key {Ctrl} and type the letter f. That may work in your browser.

• If you are doing research on the benefits of the animal-human relationship then start with your university or college library. Carefully go through the resources links, and check the publications listed on the books page.

• If you are looking for information on training your dog for visiting there are books available that go into more detail than you will find on the web.

• If you are looking for a group to visit your facility, or looking to join a group as a volunteer, check the list of groups, and the find a groups to join page,

• If you don't find a group near you listed on the web site, contact the national organizations. They have chapters all over the United States, Canada and a number of other countries. They will know about groups that are not on the web.

• Your local SPCA or Humane Society might offer a pet visitation programs. Look in your phone book for Animal Shelters, Humane Organizations, Community Service, and similar type listings.

• Dog training clubs and animal related service organizations often have pet visitation or pet therapy programs. Again your local phone book can help you find dog training clubs and area service organizations.

• For descriptions of what visits are like, or stories about visits, check the therapy pet articles on this site.

• Read some books on the subject.

• Don't ask me about finding a group near you. I spend dozens to hundreds of hours looking for this information and putting it on my website. I promise you, if I have the information it will be here. If I don't have the information, then writing me won't make it magically appear.

• Don't ask me to send you information on how to start a group, or how to train your dog, or how to do this as a career. I spend dozens to hundreds of hours looking for this information and putting it on my website. If the information I've collected in these areas isn't useful to you then nothing I can add will help. If you have questions, check the FAQ.

• Don't ask me to fill out a survey on the benefits of doing pet therapy. There are dozens of research articles on the topic. I do meet and greet types of visits. I don't keep records and I have no information at all on the people I visit. Nothing I can offer is worth while for sincere academic research.

• If you want to track down a person about the broken link or find someone to write to and ask a question:
• Try moving "up site"
  • To move "up site" gradually erase the part of the address after the /.
  • For example.

  • Don't worry about getting a "Forbidden" message, just try the next level up.
• Try using a search engine. For search terms use the name of the organization or the link title (which is usually title of the page I link to).
